Where The Wild Things Are

Here in the wilderness we have wild things too.
Saturday evening 6 otters swam by the window- beautiful!
There was a lot of logging done in our area over the last several years, to get the bug killed pine trees.
Of course this disrupted the wildlife around here. However now that the logging has stopped we are seeing more and more of the wild things coming back. This is so wonderful, as I love the animals and birds.
Lots of bear, wolves, coyotes, lynx, cougar, deer, moose, grouse, martins, beavers and now the otters.
All goes back to it's natural state if we just leave well enough alone!

A Simple Life

Snowing here and the weekend was really cold!
It was our Thanksgiving weekend, so I cooked and baked. We had a wonderful friend over to share the meal with us.
One thing about living so far in the wilderness is that it's hard for friends and family to come to visit.
We really enjoy living this way though. So peaceful here. I was born for this kind of life. Surrounded by trees, water, wildlife just makes me feel alive and at one with the universe.
It won't be long before winter really settles in. Then the magic happens when all the trees transforn into beautiful sculpters of white beauty, the ground is covered in a blanket of white with sparkling diamonds, the sky so blue and when the sun goes down the heavens are twinkling with stars so close you could almost touch them. The air is clean and invigorating and you can read the snow as the wildlife moves through.
Soup will be simmering on the woodstove, the smell of bread will be filling the cabin with a tempting aroma as we come in from the cold with our rosey cheeks.
All feels right with the world.

A little about horses

I love the smell of horses, especially after they have been eating sweet fresh grass and plants. Did you know that mint is good for horses digestion? We are lucky here as we have mint and sugar cane grass growing in the meadows.
Also if you rub a blanket or bandana in horse sweat they will keep fleas off of your pets.
Generally horses are awesome companions. If you're having a bad day or feeling down just go and lay your head against a horse. You will feel so much better as the horse shares with you some loving quiet time.

Autumn

Good Morning ,
The autumn colors are fantastic, the air is crisp and cool, the woodstove is keeping us warm inside our cabin, the horses are near by and safe, the cats and dogs are soaking up the warmth of the fire and I think it's time to make a good and hearty soup for supper tonight.
love and blessings to all,

It's Been A Busy Summer

Happy October,
Wow! I can hardly believe how busy the summer has been. Had lots of visits from family, along with haying, building, painting, cutting lumber and trying to finish projects.
The wild blueberries didn't do well in our summer heat wave, so I didn't get any picked! I feel bad for the bears who depend on the berry crops to fatten them up for
winter.
We have had a few bear encounters- momma and her 3 cubs were passing through when 1 cub got way behind the others which caused a bit of concern for us as we were so close to the cub. Momma did a run at us, however it was just a bluff thank goodness!
The other night when we got back from haying, in the dark, we were surprised by a bear chasing our minature horse with our quarter horse chasing and trying to hit and bite the bear to save his little friend! It was quite the scene! The horses are not hurt and the bear has taken off to who knows where.
Then our friend got between a momma bear and her cub! He just about got attacked but managed to put his 4 wheeler in reverse before she got to him.
There's been a coyote hanging around the cabin, too!
All in all it has been a very interesting summer and am looking forward to some down time to create some paintings and do some woodworking.
Hope all of you had a great summer.
Blessings to all,
